Australia pitcher Joel Byrne was named Player of the Day for throwing an eight-inning complete game to lead his side to a thrilling 3-2 win over Czechia.

The 25-year-old right-hander is one of three Olympic baseball gold medallists to earn the award in the Pacific League, together with shortstop Sosuke Genda and outfielder Kensuke Kondoh. The Japan Series champions Hanshin Tigers dominated the Pacific League awards.

After losing the opening game, the Seoul-based team won four straight. WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2008 hero Ji-hwan Oh earned MVP honours. Over 106,000 spectators attended the five games.

Australia, Canada and Mexico remain undefeated in Group A after two days of competition. In Group B the defending champions Japan are the only team with a 2-0 record.

Eight out of 18 teams are qualified for the XVIII WBSC Men's Softball World Cup Group Stage. WBSC Americas will qualify five and WBSC Africa two further teams. Three Wild Cards will complete the set of participants.
